Adelaide Louise (Hawkins) Neff, 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at SpiriTrust Lutheran The Village at Sprenkle Drive. She was the beloved wife of the late Howard L. Neff who passed away on March 14, 1992. In addition, she was also preceded in death by Aden Hendricksen Crouse, and a sister, Nancy Gross (Hawkins) Messenger.
Born May 1, 1926 in York, she was a daughter of the late Eldred B. and Mabel I. (Gross) Hawkins. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, Dallastown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Delta High School, Delta, Pennsylvania, and attended Goldey College, Wilmington, Delaware.
She was formerly the Insurance Administrator at Flinchbaugh Products, Inc. Red Lion, Pennsylvania. Prior to retirement, she was the Administrative Assistant at Weldon Machine Tool, Inc. York, Pennsylvania.
Adelaide was a member and Past Regent of Springettsbury Manor Chapter Daughters of the American Colonists. She also served as Vice Regent, Recording Secretary, and Corresponding Secretary. She was a member of the Yorktown Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as Recording Secretary and Corresponding Secretary. She was also a member of the Women's Club of York.
Adelaide is fondly remembered as a loving and gracious hostess to both family and friends. She was a selfless daughter, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by two daughters, Sue N. Mitchem (Robert) of Enola, Ann L. N. Morton (William) of York; three nephews Todd Gross (Kim), York, Jon Messenger (Laura) of Elkins Park, Jay Messenger (Madhu) of Salem, Oregon and one niece Nan DeStefano (Ed) of Conshohocken; four grandchildren Kristin Hoover (Adam) of Enola, Travis Mitchem (Marianna) of Denver, Colorado, Kelsey Stephens (Mark) of Red Lion, and Katelyn Morton (Cody Lauer) of York. Additionally Adelaide was much loved as great-grandmother to Chelsea, Jonathan, Sara and Catherine Hoover, Paige and Grayson Stephens, and great-aunt to Kyle, Kevin and Kara Messenger. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Fayne (Neff) Gross.
A funeral service to celebrate Adelaide's life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, February 21st at Bethlehem United Methodist Church; 109 E. Main St. in Dallastown with Pastor David Stough and Kimberlee Piper officiating. Interment will follow in Yoe Union Cemetery. A time to share memories and gather with the family will also be on Tuesday at the church from 10am until the start of the service.
