Barbara L. (Schoomaker) Krout, 86 of Red Lion passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 10, 2023 after a long illness.  She was the beloved wife of 62 years to Gary N. Krout.

Born June 17, 1936 in York, she was a daughter of the late Murray J. and Iva (Workinger) Schoomaker.

Mrs. Krout was a 1954 graduate of Red Lion High School and a 1959 graduate of the York Hospital School of Nursing, after which she serves a long career as a registered nurse and school nurse with the Eastern York School District.  She was a also a lifelong faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Red Lion.  An avid reader, she volunteered with the Kaltreider – Benfer Library in Red Lion collecting books for the Book Nook and reading to children.  She also enjoyed knitting and was renowned as a fabulous cook and baker.

In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by two sons: Eric N. Krout and his wife, Maria of South Carolina and Jason C. Krout of York; one grandson, Jonathon C. Krout of South Carolina, as well as two sisters: Mary Laskaris and her husband, Thomas of Delaware and Jan Light and her husband, Dan of Arizona.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Schoomaker.

A funeral service to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at 10am on Thursday, March 16 ^th at Grace Lutheran Church; 220 N. Charles St.; Red Lion, PA 17356 with Pastor Debbie Mahady officiating.  Interment will follow in Red Lion Cemetery.  A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will also be on Thursday morning at the church from 9am until the start of the service.
