Sister Barbara Ann Slavinski, age 89, of Red Lion, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Celebration Villa in York. She was the loving wife of Anthony Slavinski, who preceded her in death after 35 years of marriage.

Sister Barbara graduated from Marion College in Marion, VA in 1955. She attended Philadelphia Lutheran Deaconess School for Church Workers. She was consecrated as a Lutheran Deaconess on June 15, 1958, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in York, PA. She served faithfully with the Deaconess Community of the ELCA. She worked in early childhood education at both Haverford Center and KenCrest in Philadelphia, where she provided love, respect, and opportunities for children to thrive.

Upon their retirement, Sister Barbara and her husband Anthony moved to Red Lion, PA to live out the rest of their years closer to family.  When not hosting family gatherings, they enjoyed traveling around the country and spending winters in Florida.

Sister Barbara was preceded in death by her sister MaryEllen Haga-Denka and is survived by her sister Linda Rode (John). She is also survived by her nephew John Haga, and her nieces Kelly Heffron, Shannon Ariola, Holly Frock, and Kellie Bly, and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church, located at 220 North Charles Street, Red Lion, PA. A visitation period will be from 10 AM – 11 AM.
