Obituary

Bernice L. (Falkenstine) Bailey, 102, a resident of the SpiriTrust Lutheran Life Plan Community for the past 22 years, completed her earthly life on Thursday, March 21, 2024.  She was the widow of the late Kenneth "Bud" R. Bailey, with whom she celebrated 58 years of marriage.  Both were members of Salem United Church of Christ, Jacobus, PA.

She was born November 5, 1921 and raised in Jacobus and was the daughter of Allen P. and Mabel (Bupp) Falkenstine.  Bernice was a homemaker and retired from Liberty Machine Company after many years of dedicated service as a welder.  She was a woman of simple tastes who enjoyed shopping, cooking and baking for family and friends.  She always kept a spotless and tidy house.  Her favorite time of year was the Christmas holiday.  As a team effort, she and Bud cooked their much-anticipated Christmas feast for immediate and extended families.

Bernice is survived by a son, Barry (wife Linda) of Mechanicsburg; a granddaughter, Catherine Purdy (husband James) of Pittsburgh; a brother, Robert Falkenstine (wife Yvonne) of York; a nephew, Mark Falkenstine (wife Linda) of Texas; a niece, Amy Yeldell (husband Gary) of Florida; a grandniece Jessica Yeldell and grandnephew William Yeldell, both of Florida.  She was predeceased by a brother, Preston Falkenstine, of Jacobus.

As a resident of SpiriTrust Lutheran The Village at Sprenkle Drive for the last nine years, Bernice was welcomed by a staff of nurses, aides, dieticians, therapists, doctors and office personnel.  She was affectionately called 'Grandma' by the nurses and aides who tended her every day.  Their care for Bernice was exceptional and she appreciated all of them.  She regarded the Village as her home.  Barry and Linda thank everyone at Sprenkle Drive for the support and care given to Bernice.

A service to celebrate the life of Bernice L. Bailey will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 1 PM at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Dallastown with Pastor Patti Bream officiating.  Burial will be in Salem Union Cemetery, Jacobus.
