Carmen E. (Swords) Hivner, 90 of Dallastown, passed away peacefully at ManorCare Health Services – Dallastown on Tuesday, August 28.

Mrs. Hivner was born in York on March 16, 1928 and was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Hunt) Swords.

Carmen was a 1945 graduate of William Penn High School. She retired from the Dallastown School District after 28 years of service. Following her retirement, she continued to work for the Bon-Ton, a job she truly loved. Carmen was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Yoe. She enjoyed watching sports, especially professional tennis.

She is survived by her four children, Steven Hivner and his wife Pam, Woodrow Hivner, Jr., Christopher Hivner, and Cathy Hivner; four grandchildren, Brendon, Jill, Christi, and Matthew; and four great granddaughters, Justice, Erilyn, Carol, and Brenna. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Stewart; several nieces and nephews; as well as her beloved pets, Seamus, Caelyn and Peanut. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Wilbert and William Swords.

A service to honor Carmen's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 31 at The Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, with the Rev. Al Horst officiating. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday and will begin at noon until the start of the service. Interment to follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
