Dale E. Hawkes, Sr., 80 of Felton, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, July 18. He was the beloved husband of the late Geraldine J. (Kohler) Hawkes and the late Dawn Hawkes.

Mr. Hawkes was born in Laurel, PA on December 31, 1937 and was the son of the late George Lester Hawkes, Sr. and Florence (Laird) Hawkes.

Dale was a carpenter by trade and worked for various home contractors in York and Adams County, eventually retiring from Zell Brothers. During his retirement he continued to work for Tyler Run Auto Sales.  Dale enjoyed being in the outdoors, including hunting with beagles and horseback riding. He was a member of the Springfield Beagle Club, Our Gang Riding Club and was a founding member of the New Bridgeville Trail Riders. He was also a member of Windsor Emmanuel Methodist Church, and the New Bridgeville Fire Company, where he served as former fire police captain. Dale played softball for Windsor Township, enjoyed NASCAR racing and also attending local car shows.

He is survived by his five children, Dale Hawkes, Jr, Darla Hawkes, Diane McDonald and her husband Francis, Denise Grove and her husband Jeffrey and Darlene Alloway and her husband Michael; 11 grandchildren, Mike, Scott, Monica, David, Daniel, Angie, Jessica, Daryl, Sara, Eric, Brock; 13 great grandchildren, with another on the way. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Sally, James, George, Robert, and Shirley; several nieces and nephews and by his companion, Ruth Winters. In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a companion, Kay Over; son-in-law, Richard Carey and sister, Jean Heltebridle.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 24 from 6 – 8 PM at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, and then again at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 25 from 10 – 11 AM, with a funeral service beginning at 11 AM, with Pastor Steven Schmuck officiating.  Interment will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
