Obituary

Daniel W. Schultz, 77 of Dallastown passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 2, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Mary M. (Treacy) Schultz.

Born April 19, 1946 in York, he was the son of the late William G. and Nellie M. (Webb) Schultz.

Mr. Schultz proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He served on the USS Buck DD761 and the USS Sterett DLG31 guided Missile Frigate. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea). After his military service, he graduated from York College in 1973, and began a 25 year career as an accountant with Caterpillar, Inc. in York, retiring in 1998. After retiring, he found his true passion as a volunteer at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington, D.C. as a Giant Panda Interpreter. This important work gave him many opportunities to befriend people from all over the world and touch many lives as he educated the public about the importance of conservation. Daniel and his wife also traveled 3 times to China to visit Panda Reserves. He also had a great talent and passion for photography. He did many promotional services for numerous famous country musicians, as well as weddings and local fan clubs.

In addition to his wife, Daniel is survived by his cousin, JoAnn Snader and her husband, Dick of Ellicott City, MD, his God-daughter (2nd cousin) Laura Hanby of Annapolis, MD; two other 2nd cousins: Joe Snader and his wife, Fran of New London Twp. and Mike Snader of Ellicott City, MD; 2 cats: Sophie and Molly, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Daniel's life will be held on Thursday, July 6th at 3:30pm at Living Word Community Church; 2530 Cape Horn Rd. in Red Lion with Pastor Jeremy Shank officiating with a meal to follow. A time to share memories with the family will also be on Thursday at the church from 3pm until the start of the service. Final committal will be held in private by the family in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York.
