Obituary

Darlene L. Smith, 77, of Dallastown, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born September 17, 1948, in York, she was the daughter of the late Wilford Warner. Darlene was lovingly raised by her grandparents, the late Charles and Goldie Warner, who helped shape the values of devotion, kindness, and strength that she carried throughout her life.

Darlene was the beloved wife of Charles G. Smith, to whom she was married for 55 wonderful years. They were united in marriage in 1971, and together built a life rooted in love.

A lifelong educator and passionate advocate for learning, Darlene earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education and Master's Degree in English from Millersville University. She dedicated her career to teaching, beginning in 1970 and continuing until her retirement in 2004. Generations of students benefited from her intelligence, encouragement, and commitment to excellence.

Darlene was proudly involved in her community and maintained memberships with the York County Federation of Democratic Women, West York Democratic Club, BPW – Red Lion Chapter, PSERS, and PSEA. She also enjoyed hosting her own book club meetings and was a member of the Millersville Alumni Girls.

In her free time, Darlene found joy in scrapbooking, trivia challenges, proofreading, and especially traveling. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, whom she loved deeply and supported wholeheartedly.

In addition to her husband, Darlene is survived by her son, Chad G. Smith, and her beloved grandchildren, Caleb N. Smith and Elise V. Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Bethlehem Church- Dallastown, 109 E. Main St Dallastown PA 17313 with Rev. Roger Mentzer officiating. Interment will follow at Dallastown Union Cemetery. A viewing will be held the evening prior from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday January 30, 2026, at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc. 104 W. Main St Dallastown PA 17313.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care 685 Good Dr, Lancaster, PA 17601 or the York County Federation of Democratic Women.
