Donald Ramon Miller, 93, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2025, in York, Pennsylvania. Interment services were held privately.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Faith Fellowship Baptist Church, 530 Mulberry St, York, PA  17403, in East York near Sherman St. There will be an additional time to share memories with the family the evening  prior, on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 7 to 8 PM at the same church. After the service Saturday, the family invites friends and relatives to attend a light luncheon at the church.

Don was a resident of York County for 56 years. Beginning in 1969, he was a special education teacher at Phineas Davis Junior High School for over 10 years and later he worked for a printing company in West York until retirement.

Upon moving to York County, Don and his wife, Pat, and their children became active members of Temple Baptist Church and Don served as a deacon. He also initiated and maintained a weekly visitation program at Rest Haven Nursing Home for many years. After the Vietnam War ended in 1975 and many were in danger following the U.S. withdrawal, Don and Pat welcomed nearly 20 children and young people from Vietnam into their home. There were also instances in which they opened their hearts and home to the children of church members who were facing difficult circumstances.

At every turn and in every day, Don saw possibilities for being a witness for Christ.  An encouraging word to a neighbor or student, leading family worship with Bible reading at the family dinner table, these were among the ways Don strove to be an example of the Christian life.

In each of the three neighborhoods he lived in while in York, Don was known as a quietly outgoing and kind person. During the 44 years he and his wife lived on Brillhart Station Road, near Indian Rock Dam Road, they knew their neighbors and many of them came to the Millers' house to get their eggs. Here, as a hobby farmer at heart, Don continued his lifelong love of raising chickens and ducks, also raising a small number of sheep and cattle. In 2013, when he and his wife moved to a small senior development on Stony Brook Drive, near Pleasant Acres, they again enjoyed friendly relations with their neighbors. Joining with some of their neighbors, Don and Pat became members of the nearby Good News Free Will Baptist Church. After Pat's death in 2019, Don became a resident at the assisted living facility known as The Brunswick at Longstown, later known as Amoroso Wellness. For his six years there, he known as someone who participated in many of the activities, including exercise classes, sing-alongs with visiting performers, men's group, bible study and extremely punctual attendance at every dining room meal!

In his life before living in York County, Don served in the Marines in Korea, from 1950 to 1954. It was after the service that Don became a Christian. On the G.I. Bill, he completed a bachelors degree at Maryville College, in Maryville, Missouri. It was here that he met his future wife, Patricia Shepperd of Atlantic, Iowa. After they finished their degrees, Don taught at the Myrtle Miller school in Saint Joseph, Missouri, which was a school for children with special educational needs. The couple then moved to Cleveland, Ohio, working with the Baptist Home Mission Board to assist a storefront church there for two years. After this, Don felt led to obtain a divinity degree at the South Western Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and so the family lived there before moving to York County.

Don was born February 27, 1932, to Sydney Miller and Helen Bueller Miller of Nyack, New York, which is a village located north of New York City on the Hudson River. He was the middle of seven children and had a half-brother from his father's former marriage. Don is survived by his brothers, Richard Miller of Salt Lake City, Utah; John Miller of Seattle, Washington, Robert Miller of North Bend, Washington, and his sister, Patricia Miller Amell of Melbourne, Florida. He is also survived by two daughters, Eileen Miller and Wanda Miller Nace as well as his grandson, Wyatt Nace, all of Red Lion, Pennsylvania. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family including the many former foster children who Don and Pat also considered to be family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Shepperd Miller, of York, Pennsylvania; his son, Russell Miller, of Croton-on-Hudson, New York; his half-brother, Robert Miller of Nyack, New York; his sister, Joyce Miller Lynn, of Nyack, New York, and his brother, George Miller of Ft. Montgomery, New York.
