Donald Ray Snyder passed away peacefully at home on December 18, 2023 after a long but valiant battle with ALS. He was born to Allen Bortner and Crena Mary Snyder on September 10, 1939 in York, Pennsylvania and recently celebrated his 84th birthday.

Don was married to Mary (Martin), his beloved wife, for 63 years. He is survived by Mary, their three daughters and their families: Barb Snyder, Patti (Bill) Sherman, son Taylor (Octavia and son Arthas) and Melanie (Phil) Martin (children Jason, Kristin, Jacob and Rachel Martin). He is also survived by his siblings Gloria Bushong, Richard Snyder and Terry (Susan) Snyder and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graduating from William Penn High School in 1957, Don trained and apprenticed as a machinist at Morehouse. He subsequently worked at AMF, eventually Harley-Davidson, as a tool and die maker, retiring after 37 years.

At the encouragement of his mother, Don accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior as a young boy during revival services at the little church near their home. Don was a faithful member of his local church community throughout his life and served in a wide variety of capacities, teaching children's Sunday School, serving as church janitor, usher and as an elder for many years. He also helped lead and organize services at the York Rescue Mission and served for many summers at street meetings in downtown York, sharing the news of John 3:16 – "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." Don read many missionary biographies and along with Mary they hosted numerous missionaries in their home. Particularly in his retirement, each morning Don could be found reading his Bible and praying for family, church members and missionaries.

Don loved the outdoors, spent time working in the yard, sitting on the patio, biking and walking. He is also remembered for his hard work, love of family and friends, love for the Lord and generosity. Above all, Don desired people to know Jesus Christ as their Savior.

While his family and friends grieve this loss, they do not grieve as those without hope. Don fought the good fight and is now "absent from the body, and … present with the Lord."

A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, December 22, at North Hills Bible Church at 1951 North Hills Road, York, PA 17406, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
