Dorcas R. (Shearer) Smith, 98 of York Township, passed away at Misericordia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Monday, May 14. She was the beloved wife of the late Lloyd A. Smith, until his passing in 2005.

Mrs. Smith was born in Springfield Township on August 27, 1919 and was the daughter of the late Frederick S. and Ruth I. (Hildebrand) Shearer

Dorcas retired from Danskin after 16 ½ years of service.  She was a 75 year member of Spry Church (formerly Otterbein United Methodist Church) where she was known for her donated embroidered quilts and baked pies. She was a former volunteer at the Spry Fire Company. Dorcas loved sitting on her porch with friends and family, and she would spoil them with goodies and her hospitality.  When friends were unable to visit or were feeling under the weather, she would make egg custards and go see them. She was devoted to her family and was a friend to anyone she met.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Flinchbaugh and her husband Dean and her son, Lloyd L. Smith; three grandchildren, Joel A. Flinchbaugh and his wife Kim, Amy A. Flinchbaugh, and Peggy Smith and her husband Mike; three great grandchildren, Abby Flinchbaugh, Kayla Smith and Kasey Smith. She is also survived by her siblings, Helen Snyder, Norma Jean Ayres, Joanne Smith, Jack Shearer and Jerry Shearer. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott A. Flinchbaugh and several brothers and sisters.

A funeral service to honor Dorcas' life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 21 at Spry Church, 50 School St., York, PA 17402, with the Rev. Ken Loyer officiating.  A viewing will be held at the church on Monday and will begin at 9:00 AM until the start of the service. Interment will follow in Otterbein United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Dorcas' name be made to Spry Church or to Misericordia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 998 S. Russell St., York, PA 17402.
