Dorothy Elizabeth Douglas Heaps, 93, entered into God's eternal care on November 3, 2018, while at the Pappus House in York. Dorothy died peacefully with her family by her side.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, with Pastor Thomas R. Osenbach officiating. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Saturday morning, beginning at 9 a.m. The family will receive relatives and friends following the service. Interment will follow at the New Harmony Presbyterian Church graveyard, 2295 Delta Road, Brogue, PA.

Dorothy was born on her family's farm in Chanceford Township, on August 31, 1925, the daughter of the late John H. and Ida M. (Gipe) Douglas. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in the Brogue and was a graduate of Red Lion High School, Class of 1943. Following World War II, Dorothy traveled up and down the Eastern seaboard with her husband, and worked as a secretary at various locations, including the University of Virginia Hospital. When she returned to York, Dorothy worked at Diebold Safe and York Safe and Lock. She also volunteered for many years with service organizations, including the Salvation Army. Dorothy was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Dallastown.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Abel Heaps (who passed in 2008); brothers, J. LeRoy Douglas, William M. Douglas, and sister, Pauline Douglas Ebstyne. She is survived by her loving son, Richard Douglas Heaps and wife, Karen Coe Heaps, grandson, Ian Alexei Heaps, all of Brooklyn, NY; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald Smith, Red Lion, Dorothy E. Workinger, Timonium; MD., and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the caregivers, volunteers, and staff at the Pappus House for their exceptional care and support during her final days. In place of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's name to Pappus House, 253 Cherry Street, York, PA 17402.
