Dorothy Arlene (Paules) Markey passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, at the age of 93. She was born on December 13, 1931, in Red Lion, PA. She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Erma (Blessing) Paules.

Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Lester Markey, Jr., with whom she shared 65 years of love and companionship until his passing in March of 2017.

A woman of many passions, but above all she was an avid cook and baker, always ensuring her home was filled with delicious meals and treats. Her love for nature was prevalent in her gardening, where she found contentment tending to her flowers. Dorothy's warm heart and nurturing spirit extended beyond her home, as she was a long-time member of the Valley View Alliance Church in Hellam, PA.

As well as her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Markey (1953-1971), and her beloved siblings, Mildred (Paules) Myers, Grace (Paules) McWilliams, and Earl Paules.

She is survived by her sister, Nancy (Paules) Carlisle of Quarryville, PA, along with many loving nieces and nephews who will forever cherish her memory.

A graveside service to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held at 2:00 PM at Heiland View Cemetery, March 4, 2025, with Pastor Lee Nanfelt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Valley View Alliance Church, 200 Alliance Ave, York PA 17406 or Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Dr. Lancaster, PA 17601.

Dorothy's family would like to thank the staff at UPMC Memorial Hospital, Hospice and Community Care, Fairmount Homes, Ephrata, PA, and Pastor Lee Nanfelt for the outstanding level of care they provided Dorothy.

Ecclesiastes 12:6-7: "Life, lovely while it lasts, is soon over. Life as we know it, precious and beautiful, ends. The body is put back in the same ground it came from. The spirit returns to God, who first breathed it."
