Earl O. Willoughby, 90, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at WellSpan York Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Nancy L. (Heberle) Willoughby, with whom he shared more than 60 years of marriage. 

Born on December 7, 1935, in Mount Sterling, Ohio, Earl was the son of the late Harold J. and Mornae (Orr) Willoughby. He served honorably in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. 

Earl dedicated much of his life to education and to making a positive difference in the lives of young people. He was a business teacher at York Catholic High School. Following his retirement, his passion for teaching continued through substitute teaching, including a long-term substitute position at Dallastown High School. 

Throughout the years, Earl was also actively involved in athletics, coaching football, soccer, and track. Whether in the classroom, on the athletic field, at church, or in the community, he enjoyed working with young people and encouraging them to reach their potential. 

Earl was active in many areas of church life and generously volunteered his time and talents. His faith and desire to serve others took him beyond his local community as well. He participated in ministry trips to Africa and traveled to assist with hurricane relief efforts in the United States. He also served as a camp counselor and volunteered with youth ministry and numerous community organizations. Of particular importance to Earl was his involvement with Youth for Christ. 

In addition to his wife, Nancy, Earl is survived by his three sons, Scott Willoughby and his wife, Dana, Mark Willoughby and his wife, Rebecca, and Todd Willoughby; as well as his grandchildren, Cody, Laura, Cooper, Campbell, Carter, and Cayden Willoughby, and Alex and Connor Newby. 

A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Spry Church, 50 School St., York, PA 17402. A funeral service will follow the viewing and will begin at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Austin White officiating. Burial will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
