Lena Eileen Decker, 92, known to all as Eileen, passed away on August 4, 2021, following a brief illness.
Eileen was born on November 5, 1928, in Tulsa, OK, the fifth of eight children of the late Charles H. and Martha M. O'Brien. Eileen was a 1946 graduate of Marquette High School in Tulsa, and attended St. Mary College in Leavenworth, KA. Eileen married John P. Decker of New Brunswick, NJ, on September 22, 1951. Eileen and John resided in New Brunswick and Toms River, NJ, where they raised their three children, until John's passing in 2000. In 2002, Eileen moved to The Village at Wellington Green Condominium in West York, and in 2021 to the Country Meadows Retirement Community in York.
In addition to her career as a devoted homemaker, Eileen worked as an administrative assistant and supervisor in Tulsa, New Brunswick, and Toms River. Eileen retired from the Ocean County Health Department in Toms River in 1994.
Eileen was an accomplished seamstress, baker, and gardener, and followed current events with great interest, particularly regarding environmental issues. Eileen was long known for her fashion sense, and greatly enjoyed crafting and decorating.
Eileen is survived by her son John Decker and his wife Rosemarie of Dallastown, PA; her son Richard Decker of Califon, NJ; her daughter Stephanie Decker and her husband Edward LaVigne of Little Falls, NJ; her grandchildren Matthew Decker and his wife Niki of Landenberg PA, and Corinne Decker of White Plains, NY; her great-grandchildren Ava and Emily Decker of Landenberg, PA; her siblings Lois Joyce and Daniel O'Brien of Tulsa; and numerous nieces and nephews in OK, TX, and CO. Eileen was preceded in death by her siblings Martin, Mary, Frances, Rita, and Charles.
A public visitation will be held at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, on Wednesday, August 11, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A public Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church, 950 W. Market St. York, on Thursday, August 12, at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private in Tulsa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the York County Food Bank, the Catholic Harvest Food Pantry, or other charity of choice.
Eileen's family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for the kindness and friendship extended to her by her neighbors at Wellington Green, and by her new friends among the residents and staff of Country Meadows.
