Barshinger, Evelyn Louise Hess, 98, passed away peacefully early in the morning on May 20, 2024, at Country Meadows, her residence for the past nine years. Evelyn was born on January 17, 1926 on a farm in York Township, York County, PA. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 69 years, Raymond E. Barshinger, her parents L. Pauline and Harry P. Hess, and her brother, James R. Hess.

Evelyn is survived by her brother, Charles A. Hess, as well as her four children, Carol E. Burd (William); Susan K. Shoap (David); James R. Barshinger (Kathy); and Brian S. Barshinger. In addition, Evelyn is survived by her eight grandchildren: David and Scott Burd, Angela Limbach, Rebecca Mautz, Nicholas Altland, Laura Barshinger, Megan Ruffini, and Samuel Barshinger. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.

During World War II, Evelyn was employed by Dentist Supply in York, where she sometimes served as a disc jockey, spinning records to keep up the morale of workers. After her marriage in 1945, Evelyn became a homemaker, excelling in sewing clothing, quilting, crocheting and needlepoint. Her cherry crumb pie was a favorite at family gatherings.

A funeral service to honor Evelyn's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 in the Chapel at Country Meadows, 2760 Pine Grove Road, York, PA. Burial will follow in Salem Union Cemetery in Jacobus.
