Obituary

Gary "Mick" Lee Smith of Red Lion, 91, entered into rest on January 21, 2026 at York Hospital. Born on December 16, 1934 in York, he was the son of the late Dallas and Pauline (Keller) Smith. He was the husband of Nancy (Saylor) Smith with whom he shared 26 years of marriage. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Mick's life was an incredible example of loyalty and generosity.

Mick graduated from Dallastown Area High School in 1952. He worked for his uncle, Denton, of Denton R. Fitz Inc., for 25 years as a highlift operator. He progressed through his years of service to Vice-President before purchasing the company in 1978 with his business partner, Ernest L. Fitz. Together they founded Fitz and Smith, Inc., a well-known and trusted contractor which continues to successfully serve the community to this day. Mick rolled blacktop like no other until he was 87 years old.

Deeply devoted to his family, Mick selflessly worked to provide for them, and he loved them unconditionally. He was always willing to help others in need. A faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church in Dallastown, he served on the church council for many years. He loved spending time at his condo in Ocean City, New Jersey, going out to breakfast, spending time with family, and attending Chapel Church of Red Lion with his wife, Nancy.

Mick is survived by his children, Lori Myers and husband Hugh, Timothy Smith and fiance Lawanna, Thomas Smith and wife Kelly, Amy Schwarzer and husband Paul, Stacey Fuhrman, and Susan Smith; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kourtney, Kelsey, SamanthaJo, Quinn, Carter, Jake, Cooper, Kylee, Zander, Destiny, Thomas, Patrick, Tyler and Abby; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Lucille (Laucks) Smith and Joyce (Barley) Smith; children, Michael Smith, and Sherri (Barley) Harrison; and his brothers, Dallas "Jack" Smith and Byron "Craig" Smith.
