Gladys Mae (Markey) Fitz, age 93, passed away on January 28, 2021, surrounded by her beloved family. Gladys was born August 8, 1927 to the late Margaret (Waltersdorff) and Harry B. Markey of York.  She was one of four children.  In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her husbands, Clair E. Fitz and Wayne L. Fitz, and her son, Clair E. (Skip) Fitz Jr.  Gladys is survived by two daughters, Donna J. Fitz and Cindy F. Shirey and husband Bill; precious grandchildren, Shawna Marth and husband John, Alana Arment, Katie Chaddock and husband Josh, Maggie Guttridge and husband Chris, Dustin Fitz and wife Sundi, Nicholas Shirey and wife Jessica, and Madison Fitz; great grandchildren Gordon, Brynn, and Cameron Long, Oliver Arment, Cooper, Hudson, and Ryann Chaddock, Myla and Grady Guttridge, and Camille Shirey.  In addition Gladys is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, step children, and step grandchildren, who she loved deeply.

Gladys graduated from York High School class of 1945 and attended the one room school house in Leader Heights for many years.  She owned Meadow Brook Turkey Farm for thirty-five years.  She was an active member of Farm Women as well as New Fairview Church of the Brethren.  Gladys worked as a realtor at Coldwell Banker for fifteen years.  In retirement Gladys enjoyed vacationing in North Fort Myers Florida annually with her friends.

Gladys loved her family and had a strong faith in God.  She was admired by many who looked up to her as a good example.  She befriended strangers and saw great joy in caring for her family.  Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were everything to her and she to them.  Her sense of humor and smile will never be forgotten.

The family would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of the staff at Heartland Hospice. They were truly a blessing to have and get to know.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 3rd, at 1pm at New Fairview Church of the Brethren, 1873 New Fairview Church Road, York, PA 17403.  Guests are invited to arrive at 12:45pm to be seated.  Please wear a mask.  Graveside services will be private for immediate family.
