Harry Robert Becker Jr, York, PA, formerly of Felton, PA

Harry passed peacefully into rest at York Hospital Hospice Unit on September 5, 2021. Harry was 90 years old and a very active and vibrant member of his community and conducted his life in an exemplary manner. His passing has been a cause for sorrow among his family and extensive network of life-long friends and neighbors.

Harry was born on October 31, 1930 in Dallastown to the late Harry R Becker and Mary J Lease. He was also pre-deceased by his first wife, Phyllis A Becker (nee Knaub) in 1991, his sister Faye Snyder of Dallastown, his brother Donald W Becker of York, and his brother Richard E Becker of Red Lion, and his brother Charles who passed in infancy. Harry is survived by his second wife Jacqueline Hench (1999) of York, his five children Mary Ann Rittenhouse (Gary) of Felton, Robert A Becker (Kim) of York, Donna J Vandermark (Brian) of York, Linda J McCann (Adrian) of Cavan, Ireland, and Lori L Schefstad (Todd) of Kissimmee, FL, his 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, five step-children Cheryl Serio (Francis) of New Bern, NC, Kathy LeGay (Michael) of Gettysburg, PA, Karen Hench (Kevin Chrisler) of Gaithersburg, MD, Christine Lane of Bloomington IL, and David Hench (Amelia) of West York, PA, 13 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, his brother Raymond Becker of York, his sister Joyce Shearer of Charlotte, NC, his sister Dawn Anstine of Felton, and his many nieces and nephews.

Harry attended Dallastown schools, graduating in 1948 from Dallastown Area High School. He held several jobs throughout his long life, including cigar maker, painter, gas station attendant at his father's garage, milkman for Meadow View Dairies, salesman for Charles Chips, purchasing agent for Flinchbaugh Products in Red Lion, and also a coffee salesman, electrician and all-round handyman. Harry loved to tell jokes and to help out anyone in need and spread friendship and cheer to all. He was an avid sports fan, bowled in a league, played baseball and softball, and coached baseball for boys, and really enjoyed camping with his family. He was a member of Dallastown Legion, where he enjoyed a daily game of cards with his buddies, who he spoke fondly of. Harry's mind remained sharp to the end and he could recall any event from his lifetime in vivid detail.

Harry was a member of Spry Church, a former member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Felton, PA, and a former member of New Harmony Presbyterian Church in Brogue. For 1 week every summer for over 20 years he volunteered with Servants Inc. He was fortified by his Christian faith and was kind, accepting and generous to everyone. His catchphrase was "It doesn't cost anything to be kind!"

There will be a viewing on Friday September 10th from 7-9 pm at Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home; 104 W. Main St. in Dallastown. Funeral services, conducted by Pastor Ken Loyer, will be preceded by a viewing from 9-10 am at Spry Church; 50 School St. in York on Saturday September 11th, with the service to commence at 10 am, and afterwards followed by interment in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York, PA, where he will be laid to rest beside his first wife Phyllis. Harry will be missed by everyone who knew him.
