Howard James Waltemeyer, Jr., known as Jim by his friends, died peacefully on Monday, August 16th, 2021.

Jim was born on June 20th, 1935 to the late Howard James Waltemeyer and Helen Suzanne Waltemeyer. Jim recently celebrated his 86th birthday on Father's Day.

Jim was a 1954 graduate of the Dallastown Area High School, on Charles Street in Dallastown Borough. He had a number of careers including, H.J. Williams builders, Butcher at Sechrist Brothers, and Caterpillar for 28 years.

Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan Lorraine Waltemeyer, his son, Michael Scott Waltemeyer, and his significant partner, Tara T. Hatfield, his daughter Michele Ann Rehmeyer, and her husband Jeffrey L. Rehmeyer II and five grandchildren, Derek H. Williams, Keenan J. Waltemeyer, Collin J. Rehmeyer, Olivia Waltemeyer and Rachel R. Rehmeyer. Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Victor Waltemeyer, but survived by sister-in-law Gloria Jane Waltemeyer, his sister, Anita Louise Gibbs and her husband Thomas Gibbs.

Jim had a variety of interests, and he was very involved in his family and the community. Some of Jim's endeavors included serving as a Boy Scout leader, Dallastown Cougar football coach, and Nixon Park volunteer. Jim was an avid bird lover, having invented a device related to bird feeders for which he obtained a patent.  Jim was an entrepreneur, owning and operating Bird Feeders Plus. Jim was a medal winning dog trainer, training his beloved pets, Smokey and Dusty.  Jim was also an artist, photographer, hunter, fisherman and motorcyclist.

Jim was very involved in all of the activities of his children and grandchildren, to include football, cheerleading, baseball, swimming, soccer, lacrosse, Dallastown musicals and dance recitals. Additionally, Jim may likely have been the number 1 Dallastown Area High School Wrestling and Football fan, having attended countless matches and games.  Jim's words of encouragement, and sometimes colorful commentary, could always be heard from the sidelines.

A funeral service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 21 ^st at the Salem Christian Church in Jacobus, 24 Franklin Street, Jacobus, PA 17407, with Pastor Kevin Becker officiating. A viewing will be held at the church on Saturday and will begin at 10:00 AM until the start of the service.  Burial will take place at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with a short graveside service. A reception will follow at the Salem Christian Church in Jacobus.
