James L. Raffensberger, 77, of Red Lion, went with the angels on Wednesday, December 8 ^th , with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Brenda L. (Burg) Raffensberger.

Mr. Raffensberger was born in Red Front on August 10, 1944 and was the son of the late Emory E. and Elsie N. (Fake) Raffensberger.

Jim was a graduate of Dallastown High School. Following graduating high school, he worked as a mechanic for Stetlers of York. In 1972 he opened his own service center in Dallastown, Raffensberger Service Center, which he continued to operate until 2001. After closing the service center, he worked for Reliance Student Transportation for 16 years.

At the age of 18, Jim joined the "Rescue Fire Company" of Dallastown, where as a life member he served in many positions, eventually retiring as chief. He was most proud of the many young men and women who he mentored and who followed in his footsteps. Jim was also a member of the Red Lion Masonic Lodge #649, Hawkes Gunning Club, Bethlehem United Methodist Church, and Camp 4X4, where he spent many great days of fun and relaxation with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brothers, Glenn Raffensberger and his wife Deborah, Harvey Raffensberger and his wife Esther and Donald Raffensberger; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Rauhauser, Phyllis Runkle and JoAnn Ness; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Raffensberger.

Following cremation, a visitation with the family will be held from 11:30 AM – 2:00 PM on Friday, December 17 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 East Main St., Dallastown. A memorial service will follow the visitation and will begin at 2:00 PM, with the Rev. Stephanie Sechrist presiding. Burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of the WellSpan Open heart ICU and N3, for their support and care, as well as Dr. Jeffrey Frey, for his loving concern and care.
