We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our mother, Joan Carolyn (Spangler) Russell, who died on December 21, 2020 at the age of 85, from COVID- 19.

Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Russell; her youngest son, Rick Markey; and her stepdaughter, Kim Russell Hickman.

Mrs. Russell was born in York on June 9, 1935 to the late Raymond and Louise Spangler. She is survived by her sister, Pat Battistelli of Annville, PA.

In addition to her sister, she is survived by her daughter, Deb Zartman and her husband, Pret; son, Doug Markey and his wife, Sharon; as well as her stepson, Greg Russell and his wife, Gina. She also leaves behind four granddaughters; six great grandchildren; four step grandchildren, and seven step great grandchildren.

Joan worked in farmers and central markets with her family and then was a switchboard operator at the former York Mall, before retiring as a teller at Mellon Bank. After she retired, Joan and Donny moved to their beloved Myrtle Beach for 17 years.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 30 ^th , at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown. Masks and social distancing will be observed.
