Karen Jean (Renfro) Schmit, 63 of Glenville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 5. She was the beloved wife of 44 years to Michael T. Schmit.
Mrs. Schmit was born in York on February 12, 1955 and was the daughter of Janet L. (Trump) and the late Dewey S. Renfro.
Karen worked for various retail stores but for much of her life she was a dedicated wife and mother. She enjoyed dancing, especially line dancing and clogging, as well as tending her flowers and gardens. Her real passion and talent was in making homemade cards, which she gave to family and friends and was offered through her church. She was a member of St. Jacobs Stone United Church of Christ in Glenville.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her daughter, Amanda K. Shanks; son, Brandon T. Schmit; six grandchildren, Samuel Mummert, Grace Mummert, Bethany Mummert, Meredith Mummert, Ezekiel Mummert and Michael Schmit; as well as her siblings, Judy Bostion, Brian Renfro, Troy Renfro, Tina Dyer and Lisa Fair and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Dan Renfro and a sister, Sue Johnson.
A viewing will be held on Monday, December 10 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown. A funeral service to celebrate Karen's life will be held on Tuesday, December 11 at St. Jacobs Stone United Church of Christ, 5152 Stone Church Rd., Glenville, PA 17329, with the Rev. Dr. Bruce P. Bouchard officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
