Obituary

Linda E. (Walker) Wertz, 71, of York, went peacefully to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at her home, in the arms of her loving husband. She was the devoted wife of Terence L. "Terry" Wertz, with whom she shared 50 years of cherished marriage.

Born on July 12, 1953, in York, Linda was the beloved daughter of the late Nyle and Hazel A. (Shinham) Walker. She graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1971 and, soon after, met the love of her life, Terry. The couple married in 1974, and Linda fully dedicated herself to raising their family and being a loving homemaker.

Linda had a deep passion for caring for others, particularly her family. She was a gifted decorator, an excellent cook, and a talented seamstress, with clothing she crafted often appearing professionally made. Her life's greatest fulfillment came from being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, where she joyfully supported those she loved. She had a generous spirit and a heart for helping others. She adored animals, especially her cats, and was known for her nurturing nature. Linda was a long-time, faithful member of Susquehanna Grace Community Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, as a deacon, and on the church council. For a time, she was also the co-owner of Lemstone Book Store at the York Galleria Mall, a business she ran for 10 years.

In addition to her husband, Linda is survived by her daughters, Jessica Wertz-Godfrey and her husband Erik Godfrey of York, and Rachel Wertz of York; a granddaughter, Anders Godfrey; her sisters, Mary Thran, Pat Moyer, Diane Hughes, and Janet Wilson; and her brothers, William Walker, Jerry Walker, and Rick Walker. She is also survived by numerous extended family members and dear friends, all of whom will remember her with great love and admiration.

Linda was preceded in death by her siblings, Sandy Langione, James Walker, Joseph Walker, Jeff Walker, and Greg Walker.

A service to celebrate Linda's life will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, with Pastor Gordi McIlroy officiating. The family will welcome friends to share memories of Linda from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Following the service, Linda will be laid to rest at Heiland View Cemetery in Red Lion.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Mission MSA, 1660 International Drive, Suite 600, McLean, VA 22102.
