Obituary

Lorna S. (Shermeyer) Gable, 89 of Dallastown, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 20 at the Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Gable, Sr. The couple celebrated 67 years of marriage until Robert's passing in 2014.

Mrs. Gable was born in Dallastown on April 7, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Norman and Esther (Stabley) Shermeyer.

Lorna retired from the Dallastown Area Middle school guidance office as a secretary. Prior to working for the school, she worked in local day cares and also helped start the Bethlehem Church kindergarten program. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Dallastown, where she was active in the church and also served on past committees. She was a member of the Dallastown Golden Agers and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed music and played the piano. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, especially taking trips to the beach. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Lorna is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Dittenhafer and her husband Daniel of Dallastown; daughter-in-law, Brenda Gable of McKinney, TX; four granddaughters, Whitney Gross and her husband Travis of Frisco, TX, Kelly Gearty and her husband Justin of Lancaster, Meghan Gable of Anna, TX and Hadley Eisenberger and her husband Rick of Brandon, MS. She is also survived by five great grandchildren, Macy and Brinley Gross, and Lawson, Jayden and McKenzie Gearty. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert Gable, Jr.; her brother, Vernon Shermeyer; and her sister, Faye Barshinger.

A funeral service to honor Lorna's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 25 at the Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 109 E. Main St., Dallastown, with Pastor Roger Mentzer officiating. A viewing will be held at the church on Wednesday and will begin at 10:00 AM until the start of the service. Interment will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
