Luella attended primary school in a 1-room schoolhouse, then attended Junior High at Hannah Penn in York City until 1945. During her teenage years, she survived a battle with Polio and later earned her GED once she was healthy again.
After graduating from Thompson's Business School of York, Luella worked in administration for Mercury Engineering Corp in York. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Godfrey Bros. Meats.
Luella was 94 years young and the matriarch for 4 generations. She was happily married to her devoted husband, Clarence E. Shaffer, together they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on June 16th. They completed their family with two sons, Blaine & Dean.
Luella & her family faithfully attended Codorus Church in Loganville. She found strength and solace in reading scriptures, singing hymns, and prayerful daily meditations. She enjoyed baking her prized sugar cakes, desserts, making her applesauce and homemade meals. She also completed many 500-piece puzzles in the last several years. Luella was a talented seamstress and took pride in her neat handwriting always sending thoughtful cards and pictures to loved ones.
