Lynus D. Strayer, 83, of Dallastown, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the
Dallastown Nursing Center. He was the loving husband of Oma M. (Swoards) Strayer to
whom he was married for 48 years.

Born May 17th, 1941, in York, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late Ralph and Loretta
(Hildebrand) Strayer.

Lynus proudly served in the United States Army, being a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He
owned and operated the local Dallastown barber shop. If he wasn't working, he could be
found playing his trumpet. For over 60 years, Lynus played trumpet for the Spring Garden
Band of York, Dallastown American Legion Band and Dallastown Bethlehem United
Methodist Sunday School Orchestra. Other groups who had the pleasure of playing
alongside Lynus included the Wee Three Trio, Sound Spectrum, Barber Shop Brass,
Classic's- Plus Brass Quintet, Felton Band, Red Lion Felton Band, Dallastown Boys and
Girls Band, Glen Rock Band, Tall Cedar Band and the 323rd Army Band. He was a member
of the Red Lion Free and Accepted Masons Lodge No. 649 and Tall Cedars York Forest No.
30, the Dallastown Rescue Fire Company, Springfield Farmer's and Sportsman's club and
Yorkana Game and Gun Club. In addition to those organizations, he was a life member of
the American Federation of Musicians Local post 472, American Legion Posts 605 of
Dallastown and 542 of Red Lion, the NRA and a 50-year member of Bethlehem United
Methodist Church in Dallastown.

In addition to his love for his community, he also loved being outside with his Beagles.
Lynus belonged to Farmer's Beagle Club, Penn-Mar Beagle Club, Maryland Beagle Club
and York and Adams Beagle Club.

Lynus is survived by his wife Oma as well as his daughters, Colleen T. Strayer and her fiancé
Jon Sinclair, and Sherry L. Arnold and her husband Chad; one grandchild, Mackenzie A.
Arnold; brothers, Korlan B. Strayer, Adrian D. Strayer and Stacey K. Strayer and sister,
Kimberly A. Zarfoss and her husband Luther and many loving nieces, nephews and
extended family.

In addition to his parents, Lynus is proceeded in death by his brother Randall C. Strayer.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 25th, 2024, at 10:30 am at Dallastown
Union Cemetery with full military honors provided by Dallastown American Legion Post
605. The masonic service will be provided by the Free and Accepted Masons of Red Lion
Lodge No. 649.
