Martha M. (Myers) Shirey, 78 of York, formerly of Red Lion, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with an extended illness. She was the beloved wife of Raymond E. Shirey, Jr., with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.

Born May 5, 1939 in York, she was a daughter of the late Wilson H., Sr. and Ruth M. (Fake) Myers.

Martha graduated from Red Lion High School in 1957. She was a faithful member of New Fairview Church of the Brethren since 1961. In her professional life, she was a dedicated employee of Snyder's Superthrift in Spry, Spangler's Superthrift in Weiglestown and Myers Salads & Pastries at Central Market in York. Martha is remembered by her family and friends as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who centered her life around her cherished family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Raymond, Martha is survived by 3 children: Jeff Shirey and his wife, Susie of Lewisberry, Laurie Deardorff and her husband, Marc of Spry, and Amy Shirey of Pittsburgh; 8 grandchildren: Kate Sweeney and her husband, Rob, Roni Bragdon and her husband, Danny, Sarah Tezak and her husband, Ryan, Emma Swisher and her husband, Ryan, Evan Shirey and his wife, Bre, and Adam, Sam and Jack Deardorff; 3 great-grandchildren: Madison, Emily, and Paige Sweeney; 2 sisters: Naomi Heffner and Esther Dettinger; 3 brothers: Reuben, William, and Paul Myers as well as many other loving family members and her cherished best friend, Gladys Fitz.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by a brother, Wilson H. "Sonny" Myers, Jr.

A funeral service to honor Martha's life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 18th at the New Fairview Church of the Brethren; 1873 New Fairview Church Road; York, PA 17403. A visitation will also be held on the day of the service at the church from 9 AM until the time of the service. Interment will immediately follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
