Mary Ann
Lauver
May 13, 1940 — Jun 17, 2026
York Township
Mary Ann (Mitchell) Lauver, 86, of York, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, at WellSpan York Hospital. Born on May 13, 1940, in Liverpool, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Charles Leroy and Helen Mae (Barner) Mitchell.
Mary Ann was the beloved wife of Carl Arden Lauver, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage.
Mary Ann spent her childhood on a farm before moving to town as a teenager, where she enjoyed playing the piano, going to Saturday movies, roller skating, and playing basketball. She graduated from Greenwood High School as salutatorian and went on to build a career in the insurance industry. She loved her work and always hoped one day to pursue a college education. After about eight years, she met Carl Lauver on a blind date, and the two married on September 7, 1968, in Liverpool, PA. The couple relocated to York, PA, where Carl began a new engineering position.
When she became pregnant with their first child, Sherri, in 1970, Mary Ann left her position to become a homemaker. She continued playing the piano, volunteered at Pine Grove Church, built friendships through home extension, and welcomed a son, Christopher, in 1973. Throughout their childhood, she devoted time every day to sit beside her children and guide them through their piano practice. She was involved in the PTA and church, made a warm and happy home. She attended hundreds of school programs, plays, music recitals, and sporting events with unfailing enthusiasm and love. She loved talking with her children, and later her grandchildren, about her passion for learning, eagerly helping both Sherri and Chris with their college applications and sharing in their excitement when acceptance letters arrived. When Chris graduated, she took her own turn, earning an associate's degree from York College in 2005.
Mary Ann eventually retired from Gladfelter Insurance Company and spent about eight years in a part-time role at the York County School of Technology, where she relished the office culture and the structure it gave her days. She treasured time with her grandchildren, and loved visiting Sherri in Rochester, NY, and Chris in Hamilton, NJ. As her grandchildren grew older, she took great delight in exploring their college options and helping them find scholarships.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, and her cousin June, with whom she was close. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two children, Sherri C. Lauver and her husband, Kevin Biglan, and Christopher A. Lauver and his wife, Kristen, her grandchildren, Elena Biglan, Cassandra Biglan, Peter Biglan, Ashley Lauver, and Brooke Lauver; her brother, Richard Mitchell and his wife, Valerie; brother in law, Terry Lauver and his wife Cathy; four nephews, Chad, Justin, and Wade Mitchell and Travis Lauver and their families; cousins Shirley Barner and Carol Hoffman, as well as many extended family members and friends who will dearly miss her.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Spry Church, 50 School Street, York, PA 17402. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Kenneth Loyer officiating. Private burial will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
