Obituary

Mary Lou (Leach) Smith, 85, of York, formerly of Red Lion, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Rest Haven – York. She was the devoted wife of Raymond E. Smith.

Born on July 21, 1939, in Snyder County, she was the daughter of the late Frank A. and Mary J. (Arbegast) Leach. Mary Lou was a 1957 graduate of Middleburg High School. After relocating to York County, she worked as a seamstress for the Roanna Girl Sewing Factory in Hellam before continuing her career with Flinchbaugh's (Olin Corporation) in Red Lion.

Mary Lou was a longtime member of Red Lion Bible Church. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, floral arranging, baking sweet treats, and was always on the lookout for a good deal while shopping. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family.

In addition to her husband, Raymond, she is survived by her daughter, Karen DeMoss and husband James; her grandchildren, Crystal Flaharty and husband Derrik, and Cory McArdle and wife Stepheney; and her great-grandchildren, Laci McArdle, Grace McArdle, Chloe McArdle, Gunner Flaharty, and Synthany Flaharty. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her siblings: Kathryn Mensch, Helen Feaster, Franklin Leach, Almeria Stahl, Eileen Bowersox, and Kenneth Leach.

A service to celebrate Mary Lou's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, with Rev. Steven Schmuck officiating. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York.

Serving as pallbearers will be Cory McArdle, Laci McArdle, Grace McArdle, Jim DeMoss, Crystal Flaharty, and Derrik Flaharty.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Red Lion Bible Church or Red Lion Christian School, 105 Springvale Rd., Red Lion, PA 17356.
