Obituary

Miriam (Mim) Mitzel, 85 of Red Lion, departed this world at 7:07 PM on Sunday, January 13 at WellSpan York Hospital, to be with her beloved husband, William "Bill." They were married for 55 years prior to his passing on January 24, 2015.

Born March 3, 1933 in Wrightsville, R. D., Hellam Township, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Catharine (Masmer) Smeltzer.

Miriam graduated from Wrightsville High School, class of 1951 and Thompson Business School, class of 1953.  She was a member of the Wrightsville High School Alumni Association.

Along with her husband, Bill, they owned and operated Riverview Farms Orchard in Wrightsville, where they lived before moving to Red Lion.

She and her husband enjoyed traveling to Florida for many years. Her hobbies were mowing her lawn, plus the lawn of her neighbor, "Mr. Frank." She also enjoyed taking care of her flowers, feeding the birds, reading and word search puzzles. She was a member of Chapel Church a Methodist congregation in Red Lion.

Miriam is survived by her stepson, Larry Mitzel and his wife Norma Jean Mitzel of York; two step granddaughters, Bobbie Strausbaugh of York and Terrie Goodling of Mountville; four  step great grandchildren; as well as Richard Leiphart, who was respected like a son to her and her late husband Bill.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel "Dutch" Smeltzer who died on July 29, 1993.

Per Miriam's wishes, there will be no viewing, however a visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Friday, January 18 th at Chapel Church, 3050 Cape Horn Rd, Red Lion, 17356, with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Brendan Hock will be officiating. Interment will follow in the church's Heiland View Cemetery. "Together Forever"

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Chapel Church "Building Fund" at the address above.
