Olga (Romanchak) Ahrens passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday October
19
th.
and met with our Lord Jesus.
Olga was a juried member of the PA Guild of Craftsmen in the specialty of Pysanky eggs. She has given away and sold her artwork which can be found in most states in the United States and in many countries around the world. She had the great honor of being chosen to display her egg at the White House. She has been featured in multiple TV newscasts as well as magazine and newspaper articles over the years. She has taught her craft to many church and civicgroups in South-central PA.
In addition to her artistic egg work, Olga also worked as a phone switchboard operator. She started her career with Bell Telephone in the 1950's and returned to that profession as a switchboard operator for the York Hospital before retiring. She also held management positions at several local retail establishments. She loved to dance and was very talented artistically and musically which she lovingly passed on to her children and grandchildren. While giving dance lessons, she met George Ahrens whom she would marry and spent over 62 years caring for him, her family and friends.
Olga enjoyed gardening so she could have fresh produce to use in her home made meals, baked goods and preserves. There were many holiday feasts that included not only immediate and extended family, but also friends and neighbors enjoying the fruits of her culinary labor of love.
Olga's legacy lives on through the love she unselfishly gave to her husband, George Ahrens of York, and her children George Ahrens (Austin, TX), Alan Ahrens, Richard Ahrens, Ruth Ahrens, Edith Elliehausen, Phillip Ahrens, and their spouses, children and grandchildren. She will be truly missed by all that knew and loved her.
A funeral service to honor Olga's life will be held at Noon on Thursday, October 26 at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, with Pastor Richard Chronister officiating. A viewing willbe held at the funeral home on Thursday and will begin at 11:00 until the start of the service. Interment will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
