Obituary

Paul F. Somers, 84, of York Twp., passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20 th at ManorCare Health Services – Dallastown. He was the beloved husband of Joan M. (Skelly) Somers. The couple celebrated 61 years of marriage in November.

Mr. Somers was born on November 16, 1936 in York and was the beloved son of the late George Williams and Anna Frances Somers.

Paul was a 1955 graduate of York High where he ran track. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1956 -1958, where he was a tank commander stationed in the Mojave Desert. Following his service in the Army, Paul began working for Met-Ed as a lineman and retired after 28 years of service. During his retirement, Paul gave his time and commitment to his community and church. He was a faithful servant at his church, Christ United Methodist Church of Yoe, where he maintained the church grounds and kept the church in good repair. He was a volunteer for Emmanuel's Closet in Red Lion and Dallastown and often helped members of his church and neighbors in their daily tasks. He also was a part time delivery driver for Dandelion Florist. For over 30 years Paul did the ground maintenance and repairs at his daughter's hair studio, Blondie's Hair Studio, always keeping the next project in mind.  Paul and his wife enjoyed traveling and visited every state in America. He also enjoyed golfing and fast pitch softball. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Gina S. Stauffer and her husband Jim and by his son, Michael P. Somers. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Reinhardt and his brothers, Robert and Kenneth Somers.

A service to honor Paul's life will be at noon on Monday, December 28 th at The Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown.  A visitation with the family will be held at the funeral home on Monday and will begin at 11:00 AM until the start of the service. Interment to follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.  Covid-19 restrictions and guidelines apply.
