Philip W. Snyder, Sr., 91, passed away peacefully at SpiriTrust Lutheran – The Village at Sprenkle Drive on Thursday, January 18, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Sylvia K. (Eveler) Snyder. The couple were married for almost 66 years until her passing in 2021.
Mr. Snyder was born in Adamsville, York County on October 20, 1932 and was the son of the late George W. and Pauline D. (Stump) Snyder.
Phil proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. Following his service time, he worked for the Coca Cola Company of York, Rentex Corporation, East York Exxon, York County Parks, and was the owner and operator of East York Towing, from where he retired after owning the business for 12 years and was known for his cigar and blue coveralls. Phil was a man who liked to stay busy and after retiring, continued to work for Millers Auto Center. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church York, St. Joseph's Church Dallastown, the Dallastown American Legion Post 605, Kreutz Creek Valley VFW Post 7045, and the York County Garageman's Association. Phil enjoyed hanging out at Maple Donuts on Market St. He loved to snowmobile, go camping, boating, fishing, and most of all, spend time with his family. He was well known for his sense of humor and had a story for everything.
He is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline "Jackie" Stubbs; son, Philip W. Snyder, II, and his wife Jan; four grandchildren, Corey Stubbs and his wife Celina, Colby Stubbs and his wife Nichole, Cody Stubbs and his wife Emily, and Brooke Snyder. He is also survived by his great grandson, Edison Stubbs; brother, Jerry Snyder and his wife Frances, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, George W. Snyder, Donald Snyder, Glenn Snyder, Jean Paules and infant siblings, Richard, Wallace, and Donna.
The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of SpiriTrust Lutheran and hospice for their attention, kindness, and care given to Phil.
A service to honor Phil's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, with Fr. Mark Weiss officiating. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on Saturday and will begin at 10:00 AM until the start of the service. Interment to follow in Dallastown Union Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Dallastown American Legion Post 605.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Dallastown American Legion Post 605.
