Obituary

Quay F. Smith Jr, 81, passed peacefully with his wife by his side at the Pappus House on August 11, 2025, after his long struggle with Myeloid Leukemia. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Darlene (Markey) Smith for 63 wonderful years.

Born March 12, 1944, in York, he was the son of Quay F. Sr. and Della (Taylor) Smith.

After graduating from Dallastown High school, he worked for various finishing manufactures and quickly became sales managers for both U.S. Expansion Bolt and Finishing Systems of York.

In 1983 he founded Advanced Deburring & Finishing Corporation. Representing international manufacturers provided him with the ability and desire to travel extensively throughout the world. From there he earned his Certified Machine Tool Sales Engineer Certification in 1998. After retiring from ADFC, he managed the family's real estate partnerships.

Besides his broad travel experiences with his wife, he also enjoyed all sports, especially skiing and boating. Quay always found time to take his father-in-law hunting in Potter County.

In addition to his wife Darlene, Quay is survived by his daughter, Kiz C. Smith of Camp Hill and son, Steven Q. Smith and his wife Beth of York; granddaughters: Katie Mercado and her husband David and Loren Coeyman and her husband Travis of Manchester, Pa.  as well as his loving great grandchildren: Samara Mercado, Levi and Shepp Coeyman and Quay D. Mercado of York. He is also survived by one brother Jay J. Smith of Dallastown as well as many loving nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dependable Visiting Angels of York and to the wonderful caregiving team at the Pappus House in Thomasville. The family could not have done without Amedisys Hospice of York for their patient care management for Quay. Thank you to all the neighbors, friends and colleagues for their loving support.

A funeral service to honor Quay will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at New Fairview Church with Rev. Paul Bentzel officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M until the start of the service. Interment will follow at the New Fairview Church Cemetery.
