Ray E. Markey, 82, of York Township, passed away peacefully at Autumn House West, on Thursday, December 7, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Patsy C. (Swank) Markey.

Mr. Markey was born in York on April 23, 1941 and was the son of the late Harry B. and Margaret S. (Waltersdorff) Markey.

Ray was the owner of Ray E. Markey Builder for more than 50 years. He was an active member of Codorus Church of the Brethren, where he was a deacon and on several committees. He was on the board of the York County Builders Association and the board of Camp Eder. Ray enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Potter County. He also enjoyed hunting, camping with his family and traveling.

He is survived by his four children, Ray E. Markey, Jr. and his wife Karen, of York, Brian C. Markey and his wife Angie, of York, Sue A. Forry and her husband Chad, of York and Jacob L. Markey and his wife Angela, of Seven Valleys; as well as 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many loving extended family members and friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Kathryn Markey, Elizabeth Markey, and Gladys Fitz, as well as his brother, Harry "Bud" Markey.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM on Friday, December 15, 2023 at Codorus Church of the Brethren, 1129 Dunkard Valley Rd. Dallastown. A funeral service will begin at 11:30 AM, with Pastor Eric Ritenour officiating.  A graveside committal at New Fairview Cemetery will be held privately by the family.
