Richard E. Dettinger, 90, of Red Lion, passed away peacefully at his residence on December 24, 2025.
He was the beloved husband of the late Esther M. (Myers) Dettinger. Richard and Esther were married on March 12, 1955, and shared 63 years together until her passing.
Born on June 22, 1935, in Brogue, Pennsylvania, Richard was the son of the late Edgar Dettinger and Irene (Fishel) Dettinger.
Richard is survived by his three children: Elizabeth Dettinger; Johnny Dettinger and his wife, Connie; and Lonnie Dettinger and his wife, Jeri. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings: Delores Lighty, Flo Cordrey, Donald Dettinger, Earl Dettinger, Jean Bacon, Joyce Colyer, Sandy Colyer, and Terry Dettinger, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Richard was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Diane Aller, and his siblings Lester Dettinger, Dean Dettinger, Vernon Dettinger, and Patsy Nailor.
Richard worked as a mason in the construction industry and took great pride in his craftsmanship. He built many homes over the years, including his own. In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards, gardening, hunting, fishing, and crabbing. He especially loved working around his property—mowing, fixing things, and spending time outdoors—as well as going to yard sales and auctions.
A viewing will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 PM on Friday, January 2, at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main Street, Dallastown, PA 17313. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Stephany S. Sechrist officiating. Burial will take place afterward at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org.
