Robert L. Fitzkee, 96, of York passed on to his heavenly home on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at York Hospital. He was the beloved husband for 72 years of the late Vivan E. Fitzkee prior to her passing in 2023.
Born November 20, 1929 in Spry, he was the son of the late Nelson and Crena (Stump) Fitzkee.
Mr. Fitzkee loved God, family and making candy. He enjoyed singing, bowling, hunting and traveling with his family on vacations and adventures, but his favorite pastime was snowmobiling and spending time at his second home at Happy Acres Campground. A graduate of William Penn High School, and member of the district choir. He served in the Navy after graduation. He began making candy with his mother at the age of 5. He took over as president of Fitzkee's Candies in 1975 and ran the business until the age of 90.
Over his long life, Robert was a charter member of Goodwill Fire Department of Spry, served as Justice of the Peace, long standing member and National President of T.P.A and board member of New Eastern Market. He was a member of York First Church and sang in the choir and at many events over the years.
Robert is survived by three children: Steven R. Fitzkee and his wife, Nancy of York, Gail S. Rutland (wife of the late Ron) of Seven Valleys and Deidre E. Wilkins and her husband, Terry of Gaithersburg, MD; one sister, Gloria Carter and her husband Neil as well as six grandchildren; Clint, Angie, Stephanie, Daniel, Joshua, and Zachary and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to celebrate Robert's life will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, July 6th at York First Church of the Brethren; 2710 Kingston Rd. in York. Interment will follow in Mt. Rose Cemetery in York. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service starting at 11:00am until the start of the service at 1:00pm.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Country Meadows South for the excellent and loving care they provided to Robert and their entire family.
