Obituary

Rodney E. Smith, 84, of Dallastown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29th at York South Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Alta R. (Blouse) Smith and the late Norma Smith.

Born on July 3, 1940, in Felton, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Charles T. Smith and the late Creda R. (Grove) Smith.

A 1958 graduate of Dallastown High School, Rodney began working with the Schaad Detective Agency in 1975, starting part-time and working his way up to the position of Operations Manager. Never fully retiring he continued to work until 2023. Rodney had a lifetime of service to his local community which extended far beyond his career, as he dedicated 60 years to the Yoe and Dallastown Fire Department and Ambulance Company, where he served in various capacities. His passion for helping others was evident in every aspect of his life, including his service as a State Constable.

He is survived by his brothers, Barry Smith and Glenwood Smith; his sister, Glenese Bahn; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by a brother, Leon Smith.

A viewing will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 5, at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, PA 17313. Then again at the funeral home on Thursday, February 6, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rodney's name to SAFER 13, 50 S. School Place, Dallastown, PA 17313.

Rodney's memory will live on through the countless lives he touched and the profound impact he had on his community.
