Obituary

Ruth E. (Myers) Eckenrode, 94, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2026. Born May 23, 1931, in Dallastown, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Mary (Godfrey) Myers.

Ruth was a graduate of the Thompson School of Business. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to both her work and her community. She worked as a house mother at the Children's Home of York, later as a bookkeeper for the York Cigar and Candy Company, and proudly served as York County's first fulltime female Deputy Sheriff. She later worked for the Schadd Detective Agency, where she retired. Ruth was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Codorus Church A Light in the Valley.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Pam Brant and her husband Steve; granddaughter, Jessica Brant and her partner Theresa Roberts; grandson, John Brant; great-granddaughter, Joie Brant; sister-in-law, Janice Myers; brothers, Charles Myers and his wife Sue, and Howard Myers and his wife Ruth.

She was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Bill F. Flickinger, Jr.; brothers, Marvin Myers, Delmas Myers, Vernon Myers, James Myers, and Melvin Myers; and sisters, Esther Ness, Arlene Luckenbaugh, Mildred Seiling, and Grace Kline.

Services and burial will be held privately by the family at Codorus Cemetery.
