Shirley Alverta Mae (Olphin) Jennings, 87, of Red Lion, passed away peacefully at the Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Charles L. Jennings. The couple celebrated 70 years of marriage on October 3, 2023.

Mrs. Jennings was born in York on September 11, 1936 and was the daughter of the late Paul E. Olphin and his wife Zella and Dorothy M. (Ritz) Weinmeister and her husband Gene. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, the late Emma and Frank Ritz.

Shirley attended Red Lion High School. She worked in customer service for the Hills Department Store and also did the bookwork for her husband's business, Red Lion Body and Fender. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Blymire's Church in Dallastown and recently attended Pine Grove Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing and doing ceramics. She also loved watching hockey, especially her favorite team, the Pittsburgh Penguins.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Debra Forbes and her husband Rick, and her son, Charles L. Jennings, Jr. and his wife Sharon; grandchildren, Jamie Myers and her husband Chad, Joshua Forbes and his companion, Debbie Foster, Chelsey McIntyre and her companion, Robbie Lentz, and Hayden Jennings and his companion, Colleen Flynn; as well as her great grandchildren, Dempsey Myers, Carolina Myers, Braxton Forbes, Ashlyn Forbes and Zoey Lentz. She is also survived by her sister, Doris Mitzel and half-sisters, Sharon Flaharty, Tammy Martin, and Laura Slaybaugh. She was preceded in death by her half-brother, Paul "John" Olphin; sister, Bonnie Roberts and cousin, Norman Ritz.

Per Shirley's wishes, all services will be private and are under the care of The Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., Dallastown.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pleasant Acres for their kindness and care, and a special thank you to nurse practitioner, Jess and nursing staff, Lisa and John.
