Spencer D. "Spence" Gohn, 89 of Red Lion passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 14, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Johanna M. "Jo" (McClane) Gohn.
Born March 1, 1933 in Springvale, PA. he was a son of the late Walter R. and Ruth A. (Koons) Gohn. He was the 8th of 14 children to that union.
Spencer and his 2 brothers, Barry and James Gohn, together owned Gohn's Service Station on the corner of S. Main St. and Winterstown Rd. which sold Esso / Exxon gas and closed in 1976.
They then opened a Sunoco station at the corner of Springvale Rd. and Rt. 74 south of Red Lion. Spence was an avid hunter, having a camp in Potter Co. His sons, grandsons, and granddaughter followed in that tradition. He also loved to bowl, shoot darts and play cards and was always seen with a cigar in his mouth, whether it was lit or not. He also loved to spend time in casinos. Spence was a stone and brick mason. He got to play his last 3 games of Blitz with his daughter, Judy Howard, 2 days before his passing.
In addition to his wife Johanna, Spence is survived by 6 children: Vernon Gohn and his wife, Lynne, Ted Gohn and his wife, Deb, Jeffrey Gohn and his wife, Lynn, Judy Howard and her husband, Kevin, Wendy Dossett and her husband, David and Lonna Axe and her husband, Tim; 1 brother, James (Jim) Gohn, as well as 16 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 12 siblings.
A funeral service to celebrate Spence's life will be held at 11am on Wednesday, May 18 th at Springvale United Methodist Church; 265 Circle Drive in Red Lion with Pastor Rodney Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Red Lion Cemetery, followed by a luncheon back at the church social hall. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will also be on Wednesday at the church from 10am until the start of the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home in Dallastown.
The family wants to thank very much, his 2 daughters, Judy and Lonna for their caregiving for Spence these last few weeks.
