Steven D. Morton, 56, of Springettsbury Twp., threw the last wrench, revved the last engine, and took his final ride on October 30, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He left this world on his own terms — with grit, humor, and that unmistakable Morton smirk.

Born June 30, 1969, in Marysville, California, Steve was the son of LeRoy A. and Ella N. (Goldsborough) Morton. He was the beloved husband and partner-in-crime of Darlene M. Morton, and the proud father of Shauna Sponseller and her husband, Mike — his greatest joy and biggest supporters in life's wild ride.

A graduate of Eastern High School and York VoTech, Steve worked for more than 30 years with Engel Machinery Inc., where he was known for his skill, reliability, and his ability to make just about anyone laugh — even on a Monday morning.

Steve lived life full throttle. If it had a motor, big tires, or could go fast, he was all in. He especially loved working on -- doing burnouts- and tearing down the road in his beloved 1969 Pontiac GTO. When he wasn't behind the wheel, you could find him cruising on his BMW motorcycle, camping with family and friends, or blasting heavy metal. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Dio, Van Halen — those weren't just bands to Steve, they were a way of life.

Known for his legendary sense of humor, Steve could dish it out just as well as he could take it. He embraced being called "Kevin Bacon" or "Clay Aiken" — or, as his friends dubbed him, "Kevin Aiken" and "Clay Bacon." No matter what name you used, everyone knew Steve was one of a kind — loyal, funny, fiercely loving, and always ready with a joke or a hand to help.

Over the last three years, Steve stared cancer down like it was just another busted carburetor — stubborn, messy, and in desperate need of a good wrenching. He fought with bravery, sarcasm, and a middle finger raised high. In the end, he wanted everyone to know life was too short, but man, was it one "Hell of a ride."

In addition to his parents, wife, and daughter, Steve is survived by his bonus kids, Jordan Tunall (Chase) and Treavor Elliott (Christine), and grandkids Adrianna, Julian, Layla, Bentley, and Camden — all of whom knew him as "Pap," the guy who handed out candy, life advice, and the occasional inappropriate joke. He also leaves behind his sister Michele Gainer and husband Ed, nephews Eric and Adam Henise, and niece Selena Gainer as well as two fuzzy buddies, Ozzy and Mozart, who are probably still waiting for Dad to drop snacks. And then there's the rest of the crew — a wild, loyal bunch of friends who long ago stopped being "just friends" and became full-fledged family.

A Roast and Toast of Steve will be held on Saturday, November 8, at 5:00 PM at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, with a visitation beginning at 3:00 PM. In true Steve fashion, the family asks everyone to wear their favorite metal band, car, or motorcycle shirt — and bring a story or two to share.

Because if there's one thing Steve wanted, it's laughter, loud music, and good friends celebrating a life well-lived.
