Obituary

William "Bill" Anderson, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at WellSpan York Hospital, following more than a decade of serious illness. He was the beloved husband of Cathy (Ness) Anderson, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage, filled with love and laughter.

A Vietnam War veteran, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army. Later he earned a degree in Computer Science from Penn State University through the GI bill. His career spanned decades and included work with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, private industry, and ultimately the U.S. Department of Defense, Mechanicsburg Depot, from which he retired.

Bill embodied the values of service and leadership. An Eagle Scout and former Scout Leader, he mentored youth, helping them build skills and instilling in them a love for the outdoors.

He loved biking, hiking, and camping. A former member of York Hiking Club, he spent countless hours immersed in the natural world he so deeply respected. A frequent biker, he enjoyed his treks through southern York County and northern Maryland. As an avid camper, he found joy and peace in the simplicity of nature.

He was a member of Round Hill Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he lived out his values with humility and grace.

In addition to his loving wife Cathy, Bill is survived by his son, Eric J. Anderson; his daughter, Emily B. Anderson; and his two treasured grandchildren, Hailey and Tyson Anderson. He is also survived by his brother, David J. Anderson and his wife Diane, and several nieces and nephews who will remember his gentle spirit and steady presence. He is predeceased by his parents, Carl O. and Armella P. Anderson, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA.

A viewing will be held on Friday, October 10, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Round Hill Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 7362 Church Road, Felton, PA 17322. A funeral service celebrating Bill's return to his Heavenly Father's House will begin at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Dr. David Feiser officiating. Burial will follow in the Round Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill's memory may be made to Scouting America at www.scouting.org. The family wishes to thank the staff of Wellspan York Hospital for their diligent care and emotional support during Bill's many hospitalizations.
