William "Bill" M. Douglas, 97 of Red Lion, passed away at his residence on Friday, October 6. He was the loving husband of Martena L. (Wallick), the late Doris K. (Smith) who passed in 1980 and the late Julia S. (Reck) who passed in 2008.

Mr. Douglas was born in Brogue on June 18, 1920 and was the son of the late John H and Ida M. (Gipe) Douglas.

William was a 1938 graduate of Red Lion High School. He was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the US Navy. He worked for the Red Lion Cabinet Company and Warners Moving and Storage. In 1949, he started his own businesses, white washing and later Red Lion Spray, Inc. and continued as president until he retired in his 80s.

Bill was a longtime member of Bethlehem Stonepile United Methodist Church.

He was an active member in many organizations, including the Masonic Lodge 649, the Scottish Rite, Zembo Shrine, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Hawks Gunning Club and the Elks 1592. He was also a member of Red Lion VFW Post 1446 and the Red Lion American Legion Post 543.

Traveling and spending time with family were what brought him joy especially at the pond where he also loved hosting his annual Pig Roast.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Jeffrey W. Douglas and his wife Linda of Parkland, FL, Bonita G. Keeports and her husband Richard of York, Billee R. Couch and her husband Tim of Dallastown and Stephen L. Douglas and his wife Teresa of Red Lion; three step children, Bonnie Bailey and her husband John of York, Carol Schlosser and her husband William of Ohio, and John Sprenkle and his wife Shelly of York. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren and a step great greatgrandchild; as well as his sister, Dorothy Heaps of York and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, William B. Douglas; a grandson, Jeffrey W. Douglas, II; a brother, Leroy Douglas; and a sister, Pauline Ebstyne.

A funeral service to honor William's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 13 at Bethlehem Stonepile United Methodist Church, 250 Bethlehem Church Rd., Red Lion, PA 17356, with Pastor Thomas R. Osenbach officiating. A viewing will be held at the church on Friday and will begin at 10:00 AM until the start of the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions in William's name can be made to Bethlehem Stonepile United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank each of William's personal caregivers for their exemplary care and Hospice and Community Care for help during his final days. They would also like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Tom Osenbach and Alyssa Wolfe for their visits and ministry.
