Seven Valleys
Wilmer "Shorty" H. Barshinger, 84, of Seven Valleys, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home on Thursday, March 24 th . He was the beloved husband of Renate E. (Schleicher) Barshinger.
Mr. Barshinger was born in York on March 28, 1937 and was the son of the late Charles W. and Grace E. (Slenker) Barshinger.
Wilmer was a custom carpenter, working for his family-owned business, Barshinger Builders Inc.. He was a life time member of Spry Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, and was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and doing family activities.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four daughters, Linda L. Rabenstine and her husband Jeff, Patricia A. Forry and her husband Randy, Beverly J. Castriota and her late husband Joseph, and Suzanne K. Warner and her husband John. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Charlene Kennell and her husband Frank; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Shawn, Lauren, Angela, Melissa, Stacey, and Joseph; seven great grandchildren, as well as three brothers, Donald Barshinger and his wife Eileen, Dennis Barshinger and his wife Janet, and Kenneth Barshinger and his wife Becky.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma McWilliams and Arlene Smith.
A viewing will take place on Tuesday, March 29 th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 30 th at 11:00 AM at Spry Church, 50 School Lane, York, PA 17402, with Rev. Ken Loyer officiating. A viewing will be held at the church on Wednesday and will begin at 10:00 AM until the start of the service. Interment will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Amedisys Hospice, 984 Loucks Rd., Suite 1, York, PA 17404, or to Spry Church at the address listed above.
